If you live out of Basque Country, probably all the few news you get about us are related with the terrorism of ETA.
That’s why I, modestly, try to show you other face of our reality.
Please pay attention to the following news that I found in EiTB:
“Basque Country continues to lead world in organ donation.
A drop in the number of deaths on the road has led to a slight drop in donations but the Basques continue to make 38 organ donations per one million inhabitants.
In the Basque Country, 200 transplant operations take place every year placing it at the top of the table internationally in terms of organ transplants with a rate of 38 donations per one million inhabitants.
Kidney, liver, lung and heart transplants are the most common.
In addition to these figures, the number of families now choosing to opt out of organ donation has also dropped: A decade ago, 30% refused to donate their dead relatives organs while in the past year, this figure has dropped to 10%, well below the European average.
It has been concluded that the work carried out by Basque hospitals in the area of donation is so remarkable they have been chosen to develop a book outlining good practice for encouraging organ donors.”
Don’t you think it’s absolutely fantastic!!!
